Quick Start Guide: Your First 5 Minutes with MentionTracking

Welcome to MentionTracking! This guide will help you quickly set up everything you need to start tracking your brand mentions and gaining valuable insights. Let's get started!

Our Goal: To get you from setup to your first mention alert in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Create Your First Keyword

A keyword is the foundation of all monitoring. It can be the name of your brand, product, a competitor, or any topic you're interested in.

Navigate to the Keyword Settings section in the side menu. In the input field, type your keyword (e.g., "MyAwesomeApp") and click "Add Keyword".

Tip: Start with the most important thing—your brand or product name. You can always add more keywords later.

Sources: Select sources (platforms) that you want to track. Currently available platforms include Reddit, X (Twitter), Instagram, YouTube (videos and comments), HackerNews, RSS Feeds (News, Blogs, etc.)

Step 2: Set Up Instant Notifications

MentionTracking can work for you 24/7 and notify you about new mentions as soon as they appear. Let's configure where these alerts should be sent.

Go to the Alerts section. Create a new "Alert Rule", select the keyword you just created, and specify where to send the notifications.

Email Notifications

The simplest way. Notifications will be sent directly to your email address. No extra setup is required.

Webhook Integrations (Slack/Discord)

The most effective way. Get alerts directly in your team's chat. Just paste the webhook URL from your Slack or Discord settings.

Warning: Make sure you copy the correct and complete webhook URL. An incorrect URL is the most common reason for notifications not being delivered.

Step 3: Analyze the Mentions Feed

Once you've added a keyword, our workers immediately start scanning the internet. The first mentions may begin to appear within a few minutes.

Navigate to the Mentions Feed. All found mentions will appear here in real-time as convenient cards.

Each card contains:

  • Source and Author: Where the mention came from.
  • Content: The text with your keyword highlighted.
  • Sentiment: The evaluation (positive/negative/neutral) from our AI.
  • Actions: Options to go to the source, mark as read, or add to favorites.

Step 4: Explore the Analytics

Once enough data has been collected, you can see the big picture on the analytics page.

What you'll find: In the Analytics section, you will see mention trends, sentiment distribution, and your most active sources. This is your command center for reputation assessment.

You're All Set! What's Next?

Congratulations! You have set up the foundation for your reputation monitoring. The system is now working for you.

Next steps: Try adding a few more keywords (like competitor names), set up different notification rules for various channels, or just relax and wait for MentionTracking to bring you the first insights.
